Resumo:
The synthesis of transition metal complexes stands out because they occur most of the time in an aqueous medium. However, the use of ligands and some toxic reagents cause hazardous waste. This article reports an analysis of the hazards involved in available protocols for experiments on the synthesis of coordination compounds, proposed in books and protocols used in teaching laboratories of higher education courses in chemistry in Brazil, using the SHE tool (abbreviation for safety, human health and environment). For this analysis were considered all substances involved in the synthesis, whether stoichiometric reagents, catalysts, solvents and other auxiliary substances, product, co-products and residues. The results of the analysis indicated that in all syntheses there was at least one high physical (S) and/or to human health (H) hazard. The inclusion of the SHE tool in the educational laboratory can provide students with an opportunity to work with varied information about the hazards of chemical substances, contributing to the growth of a safety culture.
